Alexander Fleming
An iconic biologist named Alexander Fleming was born (August 6, 1811). He wrote many articles on bacteriology and other scientific branches. Alexander was best known for his discovery of the antibiotic Penicillin. Penicillium Notatum was the mold that lead to the discovery of Penicillin. As seeing many deaths of soldiers from sepsis, Fleming wanted to come up with an anti-bacterial agent that would stop the mess. In 1945 Fleming won the nobel prize in medicine. Fleming was surely a man that changed the world.
Penicillin and it's history
Many people today consider Penicillin to be the drug of miracles because of every disease and outbreak it's helped prevent. Penicillin was not heard of until the early forties. The whole discovery of this lifesaver was all an accident that occured at St. Mary's Hospital in London. It all happened when Dr. Alexander Fleming was examining a culture of a specific pathogenic bacterium called staphylococcus which lead to the sight of the pathogen being contaminated by a species called penicillium. Further research proved that around the mold Penicillium was an area where no staphylococcus could grow. This species of mold was unknown at the time but it didn't stop Fleming from realizing that it was inhibiting the bacterial growth. in 1929 Fleming wrote his findings in his personal journal.
